Vulvar Cancer: A Rare But Important Disease

Vulvar cancer is a rare type of cancer that begins in the tissues located on the outer part of the female genitalia. It is mainly seen in older women, but in some cases it can also occur in younger women – especially in those with HPV and those with weakened immune systems.

Symptoms

  • Itching, burning in the external genitalia
  • Visible wound, swelling, or change
  • Changes in skin color or texture
  • Pain or bleeding during sexual intercoursePain or bleeding during sexual intercourse

Diagnostics and treatment

A definitive diagnosis is made with colposcopy and biopsy. Treatment begins with surgery, and in advanced cases, chemotherapy and radiation therapy may be added.
